Retention and Progression to Graduation Policies

Good Standing in the Human Services Program

To remain in good academic standing with the program, Human Services majors are required to

  • maintain minimum Institutional GPA (formerly KSU AGPA) of 2.80 or higher
(GPAs of majors will be reviewed after grades are submitted each semester—failure to maintain the minimum Institutional GPA will result in the student receiving a Human Services Academic Progression Warning)

Human Services Academic Progression Warning

When the Institutional GPA (formerly KSU AGPA) of a Human Services student drops below the minimum of 2.80, the following will occur:

Human Services students in the program will receive an e-mail from the Human Services Program Coordinator to their KSU student e-mail stating their program status is moved to “Human Services Academic Progression Warning” status.
Human Services students in the program will have two consecutive  semesters from the time of warning to bring their Institutional GPA (formerly KSU AGPA) to the required 2.80 or higher.

Upon notification of the "Human Services Academic Progression Warning," Human Services students in the program should

  1. meet with the WellStar College Advising Center and their faculty mentor within two weeks of notification and
  2. develop a written remediation plan in collaboration with the WellStar College Advising Center and faculty mentor (a signed copy is provided to the student).

Human Services majors on "Human Services Academic Progression Warning" should meet at least a couple of times a semester with the WellStar College Advising Center and a faculty mentor to discuss progress on the remediation plan and to determine if any additional actions are needed. At the conclusion of the two-semester "Human Services Academic Progression Warning" period, the student’s academic record will be reassessed by the WellStar College Advising Center and Human Services Program Coordinator to determine if the student can continue within the program.

Dismissal from Human Services Major

Human Services majors failing to bring their Institutional GPA (formerly KSU AGPA) to 2.80 after the second consecutive semester on “Human Services Academic Progression Warning” will be dismissed from the Human Services program.

Reinstatement After Dismissal

Students dismissed from the major may reapply for the major after two semesters from time of dismissal. They must reapply to the Human Services program to be considered for reinstatement. Students reapplying for admission must meet the same requirements as required for first-time applicants to the program.
