Fitness Assessment Center

fitness testing

The Kennesaw State University Department of Exercise Science and Sport Management Fitness Assessment Center is now offering fitness assessments to the campus and surrounding community. Faculty members working with Exercise Science students who have been certified by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as Exercise Physiologists will conduct the assessments, and will interpret and explain test results to clients.

Testing

Health-related fitness assessments include measurement of body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, and pulmonary function assessment. In addition, metabolic function will be assessed by measuring fasting lipids and glucose, and those who chose the Clinical Package will learn their resting metabolic rates.

Prior to testing, all clients will be provided with a description of all of the assessments in the selected package, including a disclosure of all the risks involved, and will provide their informed consent to proceed. In doing so, clients will assume the risks inherent in each of the assessments.

Eligibility for maximal VO2 testing will be determined using ACSM’s pre-screening algorithm. Those for whom vigorous exercise is not appropriate will not undergo a maximal exercise test, but a submaximal assessment may be performed as an alternative if acceptable to the client.
