What are the two HPE practicum courses?
- HPE 4410: Practicum in Children’s Health and Physical Education 1-3-1.
Prerequisites: HPE 3450, Permission of the HPE faculty. Field-based practicum in the early grades public schools designed to provide students with practical experiences in planning and implementing school health and physical education instruction in grades P-5. Verification of liability insurance is required prior to placement in the field experience.
- HPE 4430: Practicum in Middle and Secondary School Health and Physical Education 1-3-1.
Prerequisites: HPE 3550, HPE 3650 and Permission of the HPE faculty. Field-based practicum in both middle and secondary public schools designed to provide students with practical experiences in planning and implementing school health and physical education instruction in grades 6-12. Verification of liability insurance is required prior to placement in the field experience.

What are the practicum eligibility requirements?
All applications for practicum courses must be submitted to the Health and Physical Education Admissions Committee Chair, Mrs.Lori Scheck, by October 15th for Spring courses and March 15th for Fall courses.
Practicum Field Placement Request Form
In order to be eligible for practicum, all the following requirements must be completed:- Fully admitted to the Health and Physical Education Teacher Education Program
- Meet all course prerequisites
- Have an Institutional GPA of 2.75 or higher
- If a transfer student, have an Education Transfer GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in the HPE Major Core area
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in all HPE Professional Skills courses
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in all Professional Education courses
- Received positive disposition reports from all HPE faculty members

What happens if a HPE teacher candidate does not meet minimal expectations in a practicum course?HPE Teacher Candidates are expected to maintain a high standard of personal and professional ethics while in field experiences. Please see the EPP Field Experience Handbook for more details on professional expectations (pgs. 10-14) and policies for removal of candidates from field experiences (pgs. 22-23).

- If a transfer student, have an Education Transfer GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in the HPE Major Core area
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in all HPE Professional Skills courses
- Have a GPA of 2.75 or higher in all Professional Education courses
- Received positive disposition reports from all HPE faculty members
